Laser Cutting Advanced Tutorial 08 - Paper Cutting Tips

This issue: Laser Cutting Advanced Tutorial 08 - Paper Cutting Tips

Tool material:

Laser cutting machine: Thunderlaser Nova 35 (80watt)
Hard cardboard and A4 paper represent several sheets of soft paper
parameter settings:
Cutting speed: 350mm/s
Cutting power: 15% - 35%
Cutting focal length: 6mm
Whether to blow: strong blowing
When laser cutting paper, you need to pay attention to the choice of materials and the setting of parameters. Let's analyze it briefly.

Comparison of effects:

1. Material selection

The choice of materials is especially important when cutting paper with a laser. We have selected two very different types of paper, one is A4 paper represented by softness, rice paper, and the other is paper represented by hard cardboard.

After experimental testing, we can see that the effect of cutting two kinds of paper is also very different. Why? Let me explain each one below.

The effect of the soft texture paper represented by A4 paper

It can be seen that during the cutting process of A4 paper, due to the blowing of the atmosphere, the deformation is severe, and the cutting effect is obviously poor.

Hard cardboard cut out effect

On the contrary, hard cardboard is very suitable for laser cutting. This paper is hard, not easy to fold, has a high burning point, is very flat, beautiful, has a smooth cut, no burrs, and can be completely cut out in the hollow. The overall effect is good. What's more, we use laser cutting machine to make paper cutting in less than 5 minutes, which is very efficient.

2. Parameter analysis

Power setting is 15% - 35%

Power setting is 15% - 35%

Because cutting the paper often sets the cutting speed very fast, so in order to ensure that the graphic can be completely cut through, we will set the maximum power value much larger than the minimum power.

Speed is set to 350mm/s

Because the paper is thinner than most materials and is easier to cut through, we will set the cutting speed very quickly to improve work efficiency.

Blowing atmosphere when cutting

We all know that paper is a very easy to catch fire, and the ignition point is extremely low. Therefore, in order to ensure that it is not burned when cutting, we recommend using an air compressor to blow the atmosphere to achieve the flame retardant effect.

to sum up:

From the above test, you can know when cutting paper with a laser cutter. we suggest:

1. Select a hard cardboard. It is not recommended to use soft paper such as A4 paper. But when we really have special needs, we need to use A4 paper to cut the graphics, we can put a hard cardboard under the A4 paper, so that we can guarantee that the paper will not be blown when cutting. it's broken.

2. Power setting is 15% - 35%, speed is set to 350mm / s

3. When cutting paper, it is recommended to use an air compressor to blow the atmosphere.
