Advanced Laser Engraving Tutorial 06—The Effect of Focal Length on Engraving

Item list:

Laser cutting machine: Thunderlaser Nova 35 (80W)

Glued wood: 3mm

parameter settings:

Engraving speed: 500mm / s

Engraving power: 15%

Engraving interval: 0.08

Whether to blow: weak blow

We can see that the change of focal length affects the change of carving. Why do you say that?

First of all, we can see that from top to bottom, as the focal length increases, the picture becomes more and more blurred. What is the reason for this? Actually, it is because the light spot of the carving becomes larger and the fineness of the carving is caused.

6mm focal length

12mm focal length

18mm focal length

24mm focal length

Then, the depth of the engraving will become shallower as the focal length becomes larger. Similarly, the change of focal length will cause the spot to become larger. Therefore, the energy of the focus is weakened and the engraving will be shallower.

Here, we can also see that the color of the engraving will become darker as the focal length becomes larger. This is because the larger the light spot causes repeated engravings, which exacerbates the carbonization of the material surface.

Finally, we know that relative to power, speed and other parameters can be adjusted according to specific conditions. In order to adjust the best effect, when using the standard laser head of Leiyu, you must use a 6mm focal length.
